The famous Boardwalk is at the top of the list for many exhibitors and attendees when they visit New Jersey for an Atlantic City trade show. And why not? This iconic attraction is an 8-minute drive from the Atlantic City Convention Center (ACC). Thanks to its scenic views, a wide variety of entertaining attractions, and plenty of dining and shopping opportunities, the Boardwalk is a can’t-miss when you get a break from the show floor.

Boardwalk Quick Facts

Did you know that the Atlantic City Boardwalk has been around since 1870? And it wasn’t named after a wooden walkway—its namesake is its innovator, Alexander Boardman.

Nowadays, this 5.5-mile coastline footpath that starts in Atlantic City and stretches into Ventnor City to the south is an international tourist destination. It’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, though if you stop by during the wee hours, chances are the attractions, bars, and restaurants will be closed. However, when you stop by during a little time off from your Atlantic City trade show, you can enjoy the many amenities the Boardwalk offers.

Outdoor Activities on the Boardwalk

Although the New Jersey winters can get pretty brisk and snowy, locals and tourists alike enjoy the Boardwalk’s outdoor features most of the year—and that includes people who are in town for an Atlantic City trade show. Even if you have a quick lunch hour to spend away from the ACC, you can take advantage of the sea breeze and sun during the Spring, Summer, and Fall.

Relax on the Beach

If you’re hoping to avoid spending money when you visit the Boardwalk, bring a towel or a chair and catch some sun on the free beach. Bring a lunch or buy some snacks and refreshments from any of the nearby vendors and restaurants. As you sit down, relax, and detox from the bustling show floor, you can gaze at the surfers, kayakers, and windsurfers (and if you’re feeling adventurous, give one of these watersports a try!). Then dip your toes into the Atlantic Ocean and revel in every moment on the beach. After another long day at the convention center, come back to the beach for more trade show detox!

Walk the Walk

If your legs aren’t too tired from working the show floor all day, you can just stroll down the Boardwalk itself. You’ll have a perfect view of the stunning beaches and ocean. Plus, you can people-watch and check out the architecture of the hotels and casinos that line the walkway. If you choose to pop into any of the shops or restaurants you’ll saunter past, treat yourself to a delightful refreshment or souvenir while you get a break from the weather outside.

Visit Steel Pier

If you have a full day to kill before or after your Atlantic City trade show, head over to The Steel Pier on the Boardwalk. This amusement park has plenty of rides and attractions, including:

  • The Wheel, a 227-foot tall Ferris wheel with 40 gondolas that are temperature-controlled and can fit up to six people
  • Bumper cars
  • A swing carousel
  • Stomach-dropping rides like Surf’s Up and the Flying Dutchman
  • Helicopter rides that launch from the pier

Plus, you can wander around and try your luck at the many carnival games on The Steel Pier. Just be sure not to win a prize too big to fit into your carry-on luggage, or you’ll have to leave it in New Jersey after your Atlantic City trade show ends!

The Boardwalk’s Indoor Amenities

Of course, the Atlantic City Boardwalk isn’t only for outdoor entertainment. There are plenty of indoor attractions you can enjoy any month of the year as well.

Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall

Seeking some live entertainment? Check out Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall. The facility was built in 1929 as the local convention center before the ACC was constructed. It now serves as a concert and event venue, and has hosted iconic performers like the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, and Elton John. Be sure to check their calendar before packing up for your Atlantic City trade show to see if there’s a show you’d like to attend while you’re in town!

Six Boardwalk Casinos

You don’t have to go to trade shows in Las Vegas to enjoy a little gambling. The Atlantic City Boardwalk is home to six different casinos, including Caesars Atlantic City, Bally’s Atlantic City, and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. So put on your lucky shirt and toss a few coins into a slot machine or belly up to a table and play some blackjack or poker. And when you’re done rolling the craps dice, you can walk to any one of the Boardwalk’s many dining hotspots.

Bars and Restaurants

One of the best ways to enjoy the Atlantic City Boardwalk’s indoor amenities is to check out some of the bars and restaurants. Whether you’re settling in for a long meal or hopping from place to place to grab a quick drink or appetizer at a variety of spots, you certainly won’t be short on options.

Fresh seafood, Cuban eats and dancing, and everything from fine dining to family-friendly joints are just some of the choices you’ll have. Regardless of whether you’re in town with colleagues who enjoy a cocktail or your children want something off the kids’ menu, the many bars and restaurants on Boardwalk can provide anything you have a taste for.
